Other modifications were made to accommodate the pomp and ceremony of castle life. The dungeon is the major attraction. Meet you tour guide and start to visit this city become an iconic destination, like St Tropez or The Hamptons, whose reputation is closely linked to that of its famous visitors. At the very center of the village there is an area for pedestrians only, where it is very pleasant to walk. It is not big, because the village itself is not big, but it is clearly the heart of the social life, with several cafes and restaurants. The pedestrianized area comprises the Promenade, part of the Hauptstrasse, part of the Altelaunerstrasse and of the Rialtostrasse. Lunch free at your own. In the afternoon transfer by private coach to Gruyère, a fascinating little fortified town perched on a hill in a landscape full of grace and harmony, where the Counts of Gruyères who lived in the castle there held the whole of the Sarine Valley under their gay and kind authority. Gruyères charms its visitors by a walk along the medieval cobblestone streets (no cars allowed).  During the visit, should not fail to try some of this famous cheese and some of its even better "double-cream". At the end continue to visit the famous castle. The crane (in French: “grue”) - its heraldic representation - inspired the name Gruyères. Despite the importance of the House of Gruyères its beginnings remain quite mysterious. The building was constructed between 1270 and 1282 in the typical square plan of the fortifications in Savoy. The end of the 15th century stands out as the golden age in the history of the counts. In 1476, count Louis takes part in the Burgundy war by the Confederates’ side. Following this deed of value, modernization works were undertaken. The adjustment of the esplanade with its chapel, the spiral staircase in the courtyard and the transformation of the main building go back to that time. Thus, the castle loses its fortress appearance to become a stately residence. The baroque interiors remind one of the time when the bailiffs sent by Fribourg lived there. The romantic landscapes were painted in mid 19th century by J.-B. Camille Corot, Barthélemy Menn and other well-known artists. Return by private coach to the hotel, dinner at your own and overnight at the hotel.
