1) FULL  DAY: BORROMEAN ISLANDS

In the morning transfer by your own to Stresa. Full day dedicated to the excursion to the three Borromean Islands. Embarkation in Stresa and departure towards Isola Bella. Visit of the 17th century Baroque Palace and of the scenic gardens. Next stop in Isola Superiore dei Pescatori (Fishermen’s Island), the only isle steadily inhabitated. Lunch at the  restaurant or  at your own. In the afternoon embarkation towards Isola Madre.. Its gardens, are full of rare plants and exotic flowers, helping to create the charm of a tropical land. At the end back to  Stresa by private boat.

 

2) HALF DAY: ANGERA CASTLE AND SANTA CATERINA HERMITAGE

 Transfer by your own to Angera on the Lombard shore to lake Maggiore. Visit the Rocca Borromea , the only medieval castle in the Lake.   It rises on a spur of rock that has always dominated the southern part of Lake Maggiore. Some rooms house the Doll and Children’s Clothes Museum. This is the most important collection of its kind in Europe; more than 1.000 pieces are displayed  from the beginning of 19th and 20th century. At the end departure to Leggiuno and visit  the Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, an ancient and suggestive religious complex overhanging the lake. It preserves important painting proof of year 300.  At the end of the visit, the tour gets along the bloomy bank of the lake.

 

3) FULL DAY VILLA TARANTO AND ORTA LAKE

Transfer to your own to Villa Taranto located in Verbania on the western shore of Lake Maggiore at about  15 km from Stresa. Entrance to Villa Taranto  which is well known  all around the world for its marvellous Gardens. In the afternoon departure to the Lake of Orta, the most romantic lake. Visit of the tiny village; then transfer to the pier and embarkation towards the Isle of San Giulio and its magic atmosphere rich of spirituality. Visit of the ancient Romanesque Basilica and the astonishing bas-reliefs of 12th century preserved inside. At the end return by boat to Orta.

 

 

 

4) FULL DAY: 100 VALLI

 Embarkation on the public boat  from Arona or  Stresa  and departure towards the Switzerland. During the 3 hours of navigation on the Maggiore Lake you can admire  the Borromean Islands, the Cannero’s Castles and the Brissago’s Islands. Fascinating banks with picturesque villages and towns. (restaurant on board).  Arrival in Locarno. Time at leisure . Departure by panoramic  train to start a delightful trip through pleasing landscapes, spectacular falls, precipices and bold bridges, without forgetting simple villages where time seems never passed, wineyards and chesnut groves. The white and blue carriages of the narrow-gauge Railway will take one hour and a half to cross the “Centovalli” and reach the Val Vigezzo known as the “Painters Valley”. The journey will end in Domodossola. Change train and way back to Stresa or Arona.

 

 

5) HALF DAY WINE  AND CHEESE TASTING – NOVARA HILLS

The gentle Novara hills are characterized by neat rows of vines, sparkling waters and great rice fields, which provide a fascinating natural environment with the added value of the heritage of food and wine it produces. The land is particularly favorable for growing grapes, so it is not surprising that the DOC and DOCG wines produced here have a prestige and a reputation that go back to Roman times.

6) FULL DAY- MONTE ROSA AND THE GOLDEN MINE OF MACUGNAGA  ( from 1st July to 15th September):

 

Departure towards  Macugnaga – Walser land ( 1327m),  a small pearl at the foot of Monte Rosa . Visit the first mine museum of the alps  opened to the public.  The mine, today an example of what used to be, no longer in function, was first opened in 1710. the guided tour allows you to enjoy a nature spectacle including grottos, passageways, tunnels dug into the veins of the mountains, where one of the most complex orogenetic sequences of the Alps can be seen. The route takes about 40 minutes. It is about 800 metres of clear, completely flat passage, meaning there is also disabled access. Summer climbing enthusiasts can tackle the routes to the Margherita hut, at 4,559 m perched close to the summit of the highest peak of Monte Rosa, the Punta Gnifetti, and Cima Jazzi (3,803 m), reached starting from Pecetto in Macugnaga. Even if you aren’t a climber, you can reach the glacier and see Monte Rosa at close quarters by taking the Belvedere Chairlift which leaves from Pecetto. At the end way back to the hotel

 

 

 

 

7) FD VARESE, FROM THE GARDEN TOWN TO THE HOLY MOUNTAIN                 

Departure to Varese.  Known as the "garden city", the town is located on the foothills of the Italian Alps, surrounded by some of the most beautiful Italian and Swiss lakes. ( 25 km from Lake Maggiore ) . The banks of the lake and the hills of Campo dei Fiori are proof of its past of holiday resort for the aristocracy in Lombardy. From the Estense Palace to the several hills downtown, the gardens are flourishing together with parks and villas “Liberty” style. The itinerary starts inside the ancient nucleon: the Cortile del Broletto, the San Vittore Basilica (16th century) and the aside Bell Tower and Baptistery of San Giovanni (17th century), Corso Matteotti and the imposing Palazzo Estense, whose interiors are richly decorated by frescoes and stuccoes.  In the afternoon transfer to the Holy Mountain ( SACRO MONTE)   in Varese; edified in 1600 it represents one of the most suggestive example of “sacred mountains” existing in Italy, patronized by Unesco. Climb by walk along the “Sacred Via”, a Marian itinerary marked by the 14 Rosary Chapels, rich of sculptures and paintings by Lombard artists of 17th century. Visit the Sanctuary and the ancient village which has maintained its medieval plant with narrow streets and tortuous buildings.

 

 

8) FULL DAY :    VARESE, GARDENS AND PAINTED VILLAGES

 Departure to  Casalzuigno a tiny  village in the countryside near Varese. Visit of Villa Della Porta Bozzolo, known as the Favorita. Built in 17th century, since 1989 is  owned by FAI (Italian Fund for Environment) that has taken care of the restoration. Further to the Villa and a little church, it can also be visited: country cottages and their stables, the wine cellars where the biggest wine press in Lombardy is preserved, a spinnery and a natural ice-house obtained by a wide cave. The wonderful Italian Garden recalls the Isola Bella’s one on Lake Maggiore. The rooms are enriched by elegant rococo decorations. At the end the tours go on to   Arcumeggia , one of the main painted villages in the Varese province with outdoor paintings from many famous artists. In the afternoon  departure towards Bisuschio, small town in Valceresio known for Villa Cicogna Mozzoni, one of the most beautiful Reinassance villa in Lombardy.  The interior preserve refined pictorial decorations, rich furniture and it is surrounded by Italian Gardens. 9) FULL DAY :  VAL VEDDASCA  :   DISCOVER AN HIDDEN TREASURE

 If you're visiting Lake Maggiore, we should definitely recommend taking a trip to Monteviasco, Val Veddasca. It's a small village in the hills overhanging Luino and Lake Maggiore, only accessible by foot or cable car and it really is like taking a step back in time. There are no roads in Monteviasco, no cars, no traces even of cement!!  You then have 2 options to reach the village itself... Either choose to catch the cableway  up to the village, or alternatively start the walk along the mule track and then up the 1400 steps to the village itself.  Time seems to have literally stood still here.... It's a fascinating place to wonder through - narrow paths and passageways between tiny little buildings, past doorways that you can't help but wonder what lies behind them. It's a place that seems impossible to describe - you just have to experience it for yourself.  Your excursion includes also : tasting of local wine with  the Violino di capra, a special and typical goat ham, intense taste and delicately spiced scents  and   the Formaggella del Luinese/ Formagela  a  goat cheese DOP.  AT the end way back to the ho

 

 

 

10) FULL DAY :  VARESE AND HISTORY STONES

Departure towards Castelseprio, ancient “castrum” Longobard. Abandoned for seven centuries, in 1994 the Byzantine frescoes of Santa Maria Foris Portas have been brought again to light. After the visit the tour gets to Torba and its monastic complex dated 5th / 6th century, nowadays owned by FAI (Italian Fund for Environment) that has taken care of the  restoration. In the tower rare and important frescoes of the end of 8th century are preserved. In the afternoon  visit of Castiglione Olona, a Tuscany Isle in Lombardy. Of great importance is the Palazzo del Cardinale, built in 14th century whose interiors preserve the Chapel, the Sleeping Room and the Studio of the Cardinal where a fresco by Masolino da Panicate can be admired. Opposite the Palace starts the climb that takes to Collegiata. Not so far there is the Church of Villa and its façade inspired to the Brunelleschi’s style. The interiors preserve paintings of 15th century. At the end way back to the hotel.

 

11) HALF DAY : HOT AIR BALLOON FLIGHT AND VARESE

Transfer to Varese for the hot air balloon excursion. Participants meet the pilot for the general instructions. Inflating of the “balloon”  (30 minutes) and take off. The start is expected in the first morning hours (from 8.00 to 9.00 a.m. according to the seasons) Flight time is about one hour and a quarter;  The flight is not higher than 1500 feet and the landing place can’t be established since it depends on the direction and the wind intensity. Balloon will cross the Swiss/Italian border. Landed close Varese.  Our motor vehicles will bring you back to the place of departure. Lunch at your own. In the afternoon the tour will go on visiting Varese. Sacred Mount edified in 1600 it represents one of the most suggestive example of “sacred mountains” existing in Italy, patronised by Unesco. Than we suggest to visit Villa Menafoglio Litta Panza”, an 18th century architectural jewel. FAI, the Italian Fund for Environment has owned it and hosts one of the most important private collection of American Contemporary Art. At the end way back to the hotel.

 

 

12) FULL DAY: VOLANDIA ( FLIGHT PARK AND TRANSPORTATIONS MUSEUM ) 

Transfer by private car/minivan to Volandia, close to Malpensa airport.  Take a look around you - the walls are steeped in history, dreams and the future. You are at Volandia, where a wonderful exhibition itinerary takes you deep into the history of international aeronautics, with focus on the companies that have written the story of the province of Varese, the province with wings, and all of Lombardy and Italian industry. The exhibition is divided into five areas: forms of flight, fixed wing, rotary wing, model aircraft and the convertiplane. It tells the great history of flight in all its forms, from pioneer flights in hot-air ballons to the first aircraft in the early 1900s right through to the convertiplane, the perfect fusion of vertical and horizontal flight. The Park and Museum of Flight has plenty of indoor and outdoor areas for children, with space dedicated to the different age brackets. For older visitors there is the simulation area, library, historical archives (consultable online), convention room and film showings. The Volandia Store stocks a wealth of park and museum gifts and mascots and many other wonderful articles. From 2014 inside, you can visit a museum dedicated to Flaminio Bertoni, an automobile designer from the years preceding World War II until his death in 1964.  Working at Citroën for decades, Bertoni designed the Traction Avant (1934), 2CV, the H van, the DS, and the Ami 6.  In September 2015 the “Ogliari Transportation Museum “ is moved from Ranco to Volandia Park. It includes very rare pieces. Among the most precious pieces in the railway collection  there are some suburban trams of ATM, Milan’s public transport company, an electric locomotive with a three-phase system, an old rack and pinion and a  diesel railcar used on the lines run by the company, SILA. At the end back to the hotel.

 

 

12) FULL DAY : MILAN

Departure to Milan by train or by private car/minivan . Visit the most important monument: the Duomo, symbol and soul of Milan,  the most important symbol of the “Flowered Gothic Art” in the world .  The world’s most famous opera houses, the Teatro alla Scala, a neoclassical structur.  The visit goes on in via Mercanti, sole surviving route proof of the medieval town, then the tour gets to Castello Sforzesco, one of the most important buildings in Milan.  Afternoon: time at leisure to  dedicate  to other activities, such as taking a lift to the cathedral's roof to scan the city from above; visit the Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan's most outstanding museum  recognized as one of the major art collections in the world; shopping in the fashion district of Milan, the so called 'Quadrilatero'. At the end back to the hotel by train or by  car.

 

13) FULL DAY :  COMO – BELLAGIO – VILLA CARLOTTA

Departure by your own car towards Como, the town that gives the name to the lake . C     ruise on the lake by public boat.  The lake banks in Como are bordered by several villas of 18th century surrounded by marvellous gardens that are witnesses of the charm of the area during the centuries influencing painters and poets. During the navigation you can admire  the most suggestive points of the lake: Villa Olmo, Villa d’Este, Villa Balbianello, (owned by FAI, Italian Fund for Environment) and many others. Arrived in Bellagio,  landing and lunch free or at the  restaurant. In the afternoon walk through narrow streets and picturesque staircases overlooked interesting shops.  At the end departure by  public boat to visit the elegant 18th century Villa Carlotta, in Tremezzo. Villa Carlotta is a place of rare beauty, where masterpieces of nature and live together in perfect harmony in over 70,000 square meters of gardens and museums. The park of Villa Carlotta is famous for the amazing spring flowering rhododendrons and azaleas in 150 varieties (camellias, century-old cedars and sequoias, huge planes and tropical succession of meetings surprising fact: the rock garden, the valley of ferns, the forest of rhododendrons, bamboo garden, the museum of agricultural tools). At the end way back to Como by public boat and departure to Lake Maggiore.

 

 

14) FULL DAY : LUGANO ( SWITZERLAND) AND SHOPPING OUTLET

After breakfast  departure by private car to Lugano. Visit  the  town that  lying on the banks of the homonymous lake. The pedestrian area, very suggestive, preserves the historical centre rich of marvelous buildings such as the Cathedral of S. Lorenzo and the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, whose interiors preserve the most famous renaissance fresco in the Switzerland, a Luini masterpiece. On the banks of the lake the park of the town, Parco Ciani, considered one of the most beautiful in the  Switzerland. Along the paths there are many rare and exotic plants. At the end the tour continue to Mendrisio, not far from Lugano, where  you’ll find FOXTOWN outlet, one of the biggest  in Europe. In the morning departure to Ascona located on the Switzerland shore of lake Maggiore. Nestled  in a wonderful and sunny bay of the Lake Maggiore, it is considered one of the most exclusive vacation resort of the Switzerland and the “door to the Mediterranean” by the Nordic populations. The famous New Orleans Jazz Festival takes place in June. Visit of the Parish Church of SS. Pietro e Paolo (16th century) and of the Casa Serodine with its marvelous baroque façade. Lunch on your own.

In the afternoon visit  of Locarno,( 3 km from Ascona)  famous for its climate and the International Film Festival that is held in August. Very interesting to see the Viscounts Castle, the Romanesque Church of San Vittore and the Piazza Grande, one of the wider squares in the Switzerland. At the end way back to Lake Maggiore  

 

 

 

16) FULL DAY : VERZASCA VALLEY (SWITZERLAND)        

Departure by private car towards  the Valle Verzasca (journey time: about 1 hour and 15  minutes ). The Verzasca Valley is undoubtedly one of the most fascinating river valleys of the Alpine region south of the St. Gotthard Pass, and is of genuine historical interest. The valley bears witness to the harsh life of its inhabitants, who tried to eke out a living, though nature was at times very harsh and forced them to seek out sites that nowadays beguile tourists with their charms. The discerning tourist can find all this right outside the city centre. The Valley is right before your eyes, both impassable and welcoming at the same time, and capable of slaking a broad range of desires. The  valley  has an extensive network of paths, with a total length of around 3 00 km, and they cater for the whole range of needs: from a leisurely stroll along the lake, through sporting trails and theme walks, to high-mountain walks between peaks, passes, alpine pastures and refuges, with breath-taking views to quicken the heart of any mountain walker.
