DAY 1: Lake Maggiore
Arrival of the group at Milan airport. Meet & greetings. Transfer by private coach to the 4 * hotel located in the Lake Maggiore area . In the afternoon half day excursion to the Borromean Islands. Dinner in a typical restaurant set in an old fisherman's house. At the end way back to Stresa by boat and overnight
DAY 2: Lake Maggiore – Milan
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Milan by private coach. Meet the English (or other language) speaking guide and walking tour in the historical Center. (Sforzesco Castle, La Scala theatre, Duomo) . Lunch at your own . Afternoon: time at leisure to dedicate to other activities, such as taking a lift to the cathedral's roof to scan the city from above; visit the Pinacoteca di Brera, Milan's most outstanding museum recognized as one of the major art collections in the world; shopping in the fashion district of Milan, the so called 'Quadrilatero'. At the end of the day, way back to the hotel for dinner and overnight. (You can have also dinner in Milan at the Navigli district restaurant).
DAY 3: Lake Maggiore – Lugano (Switzerland) - Lake Como
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning departure towards Lugano. (Switzerland) Meet the English (or other languages) speaking guide and visit the town lying on the banks of the homonymous lake. The pedestrian area preserves the historical center rich of marvelous buildings such as the Cathedral of S. Lorenzo and the Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, whose interiors preserve the most famous renaissance fresco in the Switzerland, a Luini masterpiece. Lunch at your own . In the afternoon departure to Como. Accommodation in the excellent 3 * hotel located few meters from the lake. Meet your English (or other languages) speaking guide and visit the town that gives the name to the lake. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 4: Lake Como
Breakfast at the hotel. Meet your English (or other languages) guide, embarkation and departure by boat for a mini-cruise. The lake banks are bordered by several villas of 18th century surrounded by marvelous gardens that are witnesses of the charm of the area during the centuries influencing painters and poets. Picturesque little stoned towns on the banks of the lake, where time seems has stopped to run. Stop in Bellagio and walk through the little streets and suggestive steps where there are interesting shops. Lunch in a typical restaurant. In the afternoon the tour gets to Tremezzo to visit Villa Carlotta and its famous botanical garden. Way back to Como by boat. Dinner and overnight at the hotel.
DAY 5: COMO LAKE – FRANCIACORTA WINE AREA – GARDA LAKE
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure by private bus towards the Lake Garda. Along the way you’ll find the tranquil wine region Franciacorta, well-loved for its sparkling wines. The vineyards wrap around the rolling hills surrounding the Iseo Lake and the town of Brescia. Enjoy a walk in the vineyards, followed by a tour of the cellar and a marvelous wine tasting of best wines. Learn about wine making and wine tasting with an expert host. At the end the tour goes on towards Desenzano del Garda. Accommodation at a good 3* hotel. In the afternoon embarkation on the private boat for a cruise (3 hours and a half) along the south banks of Lake Garda to discover the beautiful towns: Desenzano, Sirmione, Salò, Gardone Riviera. Welcome drink on board. Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight
DAY 6: VERONA and VALPOLICELLA WINE AREA
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning meet your English (or other languages) guide, and depart for the Valpolicella area. Located in northeastern Italy, to the east of Lake Garda, the Valpolicella scenic vineyards start in the fertile plain and climb up to the hills, north of Verona, offering a magnificent view over the town. This is an area full of history, culture and some of the best Italian wine. The most famous wines of Valpolicella are the “Valpolicella” itself, the “Recioto” and the “Amarone”... Visit the Ponte di Veja, the biggest natural bridge in Europe, a picturesque and majestic natural arch of rock, which was formed thanks to the collapse of the inner part of a huge karstic cavern. Stop for a rich tasting in one of the most renowned wineries in the area. In the afternoon departure to Verona. Walking tour in the historical center. Through its numerous historical monuments scattered around the Medieval city center of Verona you'll enjoy a walking tour that traces the time-line of history in this fascinating city. A walking tour of Verona that begins with the Romans conquering the city and the world-famous Verona arena that stages the annual Verona opera. Then, following the narrow streets and back-alleys you'll discover many hidden treasures along the way. Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 7: DEPARTURE
Breakfast at the hotel. Time at leisure me. Transfer to the airport and departure.
DAY 6: EASTERN SHORE OF LAKE GARDA and VALPOLICELLA
Breakfast at the hotel. Meet English speaking guide and departure for the eastern side of Lake Garda. Visit of Lazise, a charming town still contained within its medieval walls. Inside you can admire the Scaliger Castle and the ancient harbor, a fine example of engineering connected to the old Venetian port system. The tour goes on towards to Bardolino. Famous for its red wine, hosts the Cura dell'Uva (Grape Cure Festival) in late September-early October. It's a great excuse to indulge in the local vino, which is light, dry, and often slightly sparkling. Bardolino is one of the most popular summer resorts on the lake. Here there are two handsome Romanesque churches: San Severo, from the 11th century, and San Zeno, from the 9th. Both are in the center of the small town. The tour continues in the Valpolicella area. The most famous wines are the “Valpolicella” itself, the “Recioto” and the “Amarone”. Stop for a rich tasting in one of the most renowned wineries in the area. In the afternoon visit the Ponte di Veja, the biggest natural bridge in Europe, a picturesque and majestic natural arch of rock, which was formed thanks to the collapse of the inner part of a huge karstic cavern. In the course of history the ponte di Veja has been visited by illustrious people: in fact, traditionally Dante Alighieri was inspired by the Ponte di Veja for the description of the “Malebolge” in his “Divina Commedia”, while Andrea Mantenga portrayed it several times in his paintings. Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
DAY 7: CUSTOZA WHITE WINE ROAD and VERONA
Breakfast at hotel, meet English (or other languages) speaking guide and departure to Sommacampagna where begins the Custoza white wine road, an itinerary that unwinds between the Verona banks of Lake Garda and the Mincio and Adige Rivers, visiting some exceptional historic centers, a strategic check board from ancient times through to the Risorgimento battles. The Road goes to Villafranca di Verona, with the lovely Scaligero castle, which has now become a cultural center. Continuing south you reach Valeggio sul Mincio, on the bight of the Mincio River, a place of strategic importance as is shown by the impressive Visconte Bridge. Borghetto is downstream from the bridge, with its ancient mills it is now a lovely tourist resort. Stop for a rich tasting in one of the most renowned wineries in the area. After the tasting the tour goes on towards Verona. Walking tour in the historical center (see program above). Back to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
